10 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING IN 2022

- ByThe Social Agency

In the ever-changing realm of social media, we know how tricky it can be to stay up-to-date with the latest algorithm changes, and all the tips and tricks to make sure you’re serving the content your audience wants and needs. To help get you up to speed, we’ve compiled below some of the latest and greatest features that are now available to support your marketing in 2022.

Instagram:

  • Instagram Live scheduling is here – No, that doesn’t mean you can actually pre-record a LIVE event, however you can build up your stream and promote your Live event beforehand so that users can set reminders so they don’t miss out. A great promo tool!

  • Updates to Instagram Feed – Two new feed options are on the way: The much-missed chronological feed is making a comeback, along with the arrival of a new favourites feed where users can curate the list of accounts they’d like to see content from. Plus, of course, the current home feed is here to stay.

  • Beta-testing Creator Subscriptions – Similar to YouTube, Instagram is expanding the ways Creators can make money by testing out subscriptions with the idea that users will need to pay for access to exclusive content like Instagram Lives or Stories. Think, Substack but for exclusive IG content.

Pinterest:

  • Pinterest expands AR – From trying on virtual beauty products to testing the latest styles- i.e. seeing how furniture would fit into your space – augmented reality allows users to make more informed purchases and consumer designs, and Pinterest is leveraging this on their platform to help amplify it as an e-commerce space.

  • Changes to search engine – Creators will be able to be more easily discovered on the platform thanks to a search engine update, which allows users to not only search specifically by their name, but also by keywords related to the content they create. Check out Pinterest’s announcement on this update here.

TikTok:

  • Testing a repost feature – Now this is a feature many of us have been waiting for… the ability to repost viral videos – woot!

  • Try a viral challenge – How can you stay popular on TikTok? Obvs, you need to keep up with the trends and try your take on the ones going viral. Here’s a list to get you started.

LinkedIn:

  • LinkedIn is testing Live – Similar to IG, you can jump on and live stream to your audience. This is currently in beta testing and only available on the app, but stay tuned as it’ll roll out widely soon enough.

  • Newsletter function being widely rolled out – Now you can engage with your audience on a wider level by having them subscribe to your LinkedIn Newsletters aka the articles you publish on the platform. Once subscribed, they’ll be the first to know when any new articles come out by receiving push notifications. Just be sure to change your profile to Creator Mode first. More info on how newsletters work here.

Facebook:

  • Changes to targeting options – No surprise here, but Facebook (aka Meta) has made some updates to the targeting options advertisers can use in paid promotions. Facebook no longer allows target options based on health, race, ethnicity, political beliefs and more. Check out the full list here to see if it could affect your campaigns.

Were any of these a total surprise to you? We’d love to hear. And as always, if you’re looking for help with your social media strategy or day-to-day social media management in 2022, please reach out.
