TSA Guide to Holiday Shopping… Online!
I’ll admit it… I love to shop. And I especially love to shop online. It fits perfectly into my constantly changing schedule and does not require a parking spot. And in this age of careful budgeting, online shopping allows for some serious deal sleuthing.
Here’s a few suggestions for some of my fave online retailers to help with your holiday shopping this year:
Chapters Indigo
Ok, this may seem like an obvious one but have you actually gone online and perused their selection lately? So much more than books. Check out this cool sled for example. And any order over $39 qualifies for free shipping. Not to mention that the majority of the items are cheaper than their in store counterparts.
Skoah
Skoah is a spa (there are currently three locations in Western Canada) but it is also an online shopping oasis when it comes to high quality skincare items. Their customer service rocks and if you sign up for their online updates, you will often receive discounts and bonus items for shopping online. They have a great selection of specially themed holiday gifts to choose from too.
Style Kid
Another local goodie. Based in Port Moody, Style Kid is a great place to find unique kid and baby items often at a really great price. They carry fun lines like Paul Frank, Krawlers and Skip*Hop. Currently, their ‘12 Days of Christmas Sale’ is on which offers new deals each day.
LL Bean
Yes, this is based in the States but with our dollar where it’s at right now, it’s really not that much more to shop here. They have super helpful customer service staff and items ship quickly. In addition to offering great basics like rain jackets and puffy vests, they also have some fun and well-priced items like these adorable kid’s slippers.
Etsy
And last, but certainly not least is Etsy, the online queen of cool handmade and vintage stuff. Most of the retailers are super responsive and personable and I’ve never had an issue with receiving anything. I know this is meant to be about shopping for others, but I couldn’t resist this owl napkin holder which now has a prominent spot in my kitchen.
Happy holiday shopping!

The Fusion Digital Media + Venture Forum 2009
FLICKR CO-FOUNDER STEWART BUTTERFIELD IS KEYNOTE AT FUSION ‘09
Stewart Butterfield, co-founder of Flickr, reportedly the most popular photo sharing site in the world, will be the Keynote Speaker at the 3rd Fusion Venture Forum 2009, presented by New Media BC on November 12 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Butterfield is a firm supporter of Vancouver’s Digital Media industry and was part of the original team that grew Flickr from a tiny Vancouver based operation to a worldwide phenomenon. He and his co-founder Caterina Fake sold Flickr to Yahoo reportedly for more than $30 million, barely a year after launching it in February2004. The original plan had been to create an online game that never quite took off. Flickr remains one of the most noted digital media success stories from this region.
Butterfield will open Fusion ’09, the only Venture Forum devoted to Digital Media in Western Canada, by sharing his success story with some 150-200 attendees, mostly Canadian founders with early to growth stage ventures. Twenty of Canada’s hottest digital media companies will present their latest ventures to top tier investors from North America, including heavyweights Google Ventures, Norwest Venture Partners and SoftTech VC.

TSA guide to buying local
‘Buy local’ is a refrain we are all getting used to hearing these days so we thought it would be fun to share some of The Social Agency’s fave local vendors…
Mink Chocolates
Yummy, hand-crafted chocolates in chic packaging. Cafe offers fondue and wifi. Seriously what else do you need?
Bloom Essentials
Have been hitting this Kitsilano spa for years, mostly because their in house product lines are so fab. Especially love their Bug & Pickle line for moms and babes.
Dream
Boutique in the heart of Gastown that has been showcasing local designers since 2003. Features great lines like Vancouver’s own Erin Templeton, Chulo Pony and Allison Wonderland.
Popo’s Ponchos
Perfect gift for the stylish toddler in your life.
The Wood Co-op
The place to go for unique yet practical gifts. We love the Double Vision picture frame and Natural Pacific Vase.
Kensington Square Wines
Great selection of BC wines including personal faves like See Ya Later Ranch’s Gewurtraminer and Mt. Boucherie’s Gamay Noir.
Dotted Loop
This jewelry line is uber eco-friendly cause not only is it produced locally, it’s made with recycled vintage items. We dig the Mr T necklace.
Your local farmer’s market
Of course, nothing is more of a ‘buy local’ experience than meandering through one’s nearest farmer’s market.
